Permanent magnet brushless motors can be roughly divided into two types: permanent magnet synchronous motors and brushless DC motors. Be sure to distinguish the control algorithms for these two types of motors. There is no essential difference in the structure of brushless DC motors. Generally speaking, those using square wave drive algorithm are brushless DC motors, while those using sine wave drive algorithm are permanent magnet synchronous motors.
In applications, permanent magnet synchronous motors are commonly used as servo motors, while brushless DC motors are commonly used in rotating machinery because brushless motors have stronger load capacity. For example, DJI drones use brushless motors.
Although permanent magnet brushless motors use DC power, they are essentially AC motors, so an inverter circuit is essential to drive them. Rectification is the process of converting alternating current into direct current, while inversion is the process of converting direct current into alternating current.
